Knowledge that stays, even when the expert leaves

Taggl and Van Haagen Techniek are developing a voice-first solution that lets technicians capture practical expertise while they work, so experience remains available to colleagues and successors.

The challenge

Critical trade expertise still lives in the head of one expert

At Van Haagen Techniek, all knowledge about electrical installation in modular construction sits in the head of one experienced site supervisor. If he is unavailable, work stalls. He knows which cable route works with a wall that will be added later and why a school building needs a different fire alarm configuration than a residential unit, but none of it is documented. A new technician shadows him for one day, and that is the full knowledge handover.

The issue is broader than Van Haagen. The installation sector is ageing: experienced tradespeople are retiring and taking practical knowledge with them, while the inflow of new staff falls short. Pressure on the remaining team increases, leading to more mistakes, uncertainty and repeat visits. Manuals and wikis do not solve this, because there is no time to type on the shop floor and no computer within reach.

Solution

Capturing knowledge while the work continues

Taggl approaches this differently. Technicians speak what they see or decide while they work. Context-aware AI filters background noise, recognizes trade terminology and turns speech into structured work instructions and a searchable knowledge base, in the preferred language. Capturing knowledge becomes part of the work, not a separate administrative step.

The partners

Taggl combines industrial audio technology and context-aware speech processing to make knowledge capture accessible for skilled workers. Van Haagen Techniek from Prinsenbeek is the launching customer and test environment: experienced technicians validate the solution in practice. The municipality of Breda facilitates the project through the TTC grant.
